Hardness testing
We use hardness testing to differentiate between materials and to determine hardness values for the quality control of heat treatments, surface treatments and coatings.
Tested for hardness
During the hardness test the hardness value is determined, which results from the indentation depth or from the recoil of a test specimen in the specimen. There are different types of hardness depending on the shape of the test piece (ball, cone, etc.) and the type of action (width or depth of the indentation).
Procedure in hardness testing
- Vickers (Diamond Pyramid)
- Brinell (tungsten carbide ball)
- Rockwell (diamond cone)
- Knoop (diamond pyramid)
- Leeb (dynamic procedure)
